Atlético Madrid Extend Unbeaten League Run to Ten With Confident Win Over Sevilla

Atlético Madrid continued their impressive unbeaten run in La Liga — now reaching 10 consecutive matches — after defeating visitors Sevilla 3–0 at the Cívitas Metropolitano on Saturday.

The goals came from Argentine duo Julián Álvarez (64’, penalty) and Thiago Almada (77’), before French substitute Antoine Griezmann sealed the victory in the 90th minute.

With this win, Atlético move up to 22 points, sitting fourth in the table, while Sevilla remain stuck on 13 points in 11th place.

Since their opening-day defeat to Espanyol (1–2), the Rojiblancos have recorded six wins and four draws, including a big victory over city rivals Real Madrid, while keeping three straight clean sheets.

Atlético captain Koke praised the team’s recent form:

“The team has performed brilliantly in the last three matches. Keeping clean sheets is vital for us — it’s part of our identity and it helps us fight for major titles.”

Despite the midweek 4–0 Champions League loss to Arsenal, manager Diego Simeone made no major changes to his lineup, starting Alexander Sørloth and Julián Álvarez up front.

Sørloth proved dangerous early on, breaking into the box after a pass from Álex Baena, but was denied by Greek goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos (29’).

The post then denied Nicolás González’s volley (37’), and Vlachodimos once again frustrated Álvarez just before the break (45’).

Sevilla’s Swiss midfielder Ruben Vargas tried his luck from distance, but his shot flew over the bar (45+1’).

Atlético finally broke through in the 64th minute when VAR confirmed a foul by Tanguy Kouassi on José Giménez, and Álvarez converted the resulting penalty for his seventh goal of the season.

Thiago Almada doubled the lead after a brilliant individual effort by Giuliano Simeone, the coach’s son, who stole the ball from Gabriel Suazo, drove into the box, and squared it for his compatriot to finish into an empty net (77’).

Griezmann, 34, missed a clear one-on-one chance in the 83rd minute, shooting over the bar, but made amends moments later — slotting home a low shot after a slick pass from Almada (89’).
